{"id":83940,"date":"2026-01-22T16:16:48","date_gmt":"2026-01-22T16:16:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/discover.restek.com\/?p=83940"},"modified":"2026-01-22T16:24:18","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T16:24:18","slug":"analysis-of-furan-and-alkylfurans-in-food-commodities-using-headspace-spme-arrow-and-gc-ms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/discover.restek.com\/de\/posters-presentations-zh\/gnot5355\/analysis-of-furan-and-alkylfurans-in-food-commodities-using-headspace-spme-arrow-and-gc-ms","title":{"rendered":"Analysis of Furan and Alkylfurans in Food Commodities Using Headspace SPME Arrow and GC-MS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Furan and alkylfurans are produced during heating of foodstuff as a result of the thermal degradation of compounds such as carbohydrates, ascorbic acid, and derivatives, as well as some lipids.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The International Agency for Research of Cancer classified furan as a possible carcinogenic compound, and there is a general concern on the possible health risks associated with the occurrence of furans and alkylfurans in food.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Methods reported for the analysis of these volatile organic compounds include static headspace (HS) and solid phase microextraction (SPME) in combination with GC-MS.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The use of SPME for the analysis of these highly volatile analytes has demonstrated improved method sensitivity and higher S\/N for some of the alkylfurans.
