Kunden erwarten immer niedrigere Nachweisgrenzen. Gleichzeitig sollen der L\u00f6semittelverbrauch und damit verbundene Kosten sinken \u2013 sei es aus regulatorischen Gr\u00fcnden oder zur Verbesserung der Wirtschaftlichkeit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>F\u00fcr diese Aufgaben haben sich MS-basierte GC-Methoden etabliert, etwa die EPA-Methode 8270. Sie bieten die n\u00f6tige Flexibilit\u00e4t, um die Analytik an die jeweilige Fragestellung anzupassen und m\u00f6glichst niedrige Nachweisgrenzen zu erreichen. Je nach Ausstattung und Zielsetzung kommen dabei unterschiedliche Strategien zum Einsatz: Einige Labore arbeiten mit besonders empfindlichen Systemen wie GC-MS\/MS, andere nutzen GC-MS im Selected-Ion-Monitoring-Modus (SIM). Wieder andere setzen bewusst auf klassische Scan-Messungen, um robuste Routinemethoden zu etablieren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SIM- und Scanmessungen lassen sich in der Regel mit demselben GC-MS-System durchf\u00fchren. Der Scanmodus ist dabei einfach anzuwenden und vielseitig, da er Signale \u00fcber einen breiten Massenbereich hinweg erfasst. Der SIM-Modus hingegen konzentriert sich gezielt auf ausgew\u00e4hlte Ionen innerhalb definierter Retentionszeitfenster und erm\u00f6glicht dadurch eine deutlich h\u00f6here Empfindlichkeit. Der h\u00f6here Aufwand bei Einrichtung und Pflege von SIM-Methoden ist bekannt. Dennoch gewinnt dieser Ansatz an Bedeutung, da viele Labore ihre Nachweisgrenzen weiter absenken m\u00f6chten. GC-MS im SIM-Modus kann hier eine praktikable Alternative zu GC-MS\/MS darstellen \u2013 insbesondere, weil sich die Empfindlichkeit steigern l\u00e4sst, ohne in neue Instrumentierung zu investieren. Vor diesem Hintergrund wurden in dieser Studie Bedingungen f\u00fcr die Analyse halbfl\u00fcchtiger Verbindungen sowohl im Scan- als auch im SIM-Modus etabliert. Ziel war es, Laboren zwei praxistaugliche Optionen an die Hand zu geben: einen robusten und unkomplizierten Scan-Workflow sowie eine hochempfindliche SIM-Variante als Alternative zur GC-MS\/MS-Analytik (Abbildung 1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>F\u00fcr beide Ans\u00e4tze kam eine RMX-5Sil-MS-S\u00e4ule zum Einsatz, die die bew\u00e4hrte 5sil-Selektivit\u00e4t mit einer TriMax-Deaktivierung der n\u00e4chsten Generation kombiniert. Diese Oberfl\u00e4chenbehandlung sorgt f\u00fcr einen au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnlich inerten Probenflussweg [1,2]. Entsprechend erf\u00fcllte die Peakasymmetrie f\u00fcr zentrale Analyten wie Benzidin, Pentachlorphenol und 2,4-Dinitrophenol durchg\u00e4ngig die Qualit\u00e4tsanforderungen (\u2264 2), wie in Abbildung 1 gezeigt. Auch die Trennleistung f\u00fcr analytisch anspruchsvolle polyzyklische aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe war \u00fcberzeugend. Die Aufl\u00f6sungskriterien (&gt; 50 %) wurden problemlos erreicht, mit Talwerten von \u00fcber 94 % zwischen Benzo[b]- und Benzo[k]fluoranthen sowie \u00fcber 95 % zwischen Indeno[1,2,3-cd]pyren und Dibenzo[a,h]anthracen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unter den hier gew\u00e4hlten Bedingungen erzielte die RMX-5Sil-MS-S\u00e4ule \u00fcberzeugende chromatografische Ergebnisse f\u00fcr eine gro\u00dfe Bandbreite halbfl\u00fcchtiger Verbindungen \u2013 und das selbst bei sehr niedrigen Einsatzmengen von nur 1 ng im Scan-Modus beziehungsweise 200 pg im SIM-Modus. Die Methode zeigt damit eindrucksvoll, dass sich auch im unteren Bereich der MS-Nachweisgrenzen zuverl\u00e4ssig und mit hoher Datenqualit\u00e4t arbeiten l\u00e4sst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div
