Nonostante si tratti di prodotti sempre pi\u00f9 accettati, ben poco \u00e8 stato fatto in merito alla caratterizzazione del loro vapore. Ad oggi, la maggior parte delle ricerche sulle sigarette elettroniche si \u00e8 concentrata sulla caratterizzazione delle soluzioni, che vengono vaporizzate perch\u00e9 l&#8217;utilizzatore finale le possa inalare. Il presente studio si \u00e8 concentrato sullo sviluppo di un pacchetto analitico completo per l&#8217;analisi rapida e semplice delle soluzioni per sigaretta elettronica e del loro vapore per determinare i livelli di nicotina in esse contenuti e le diverse tipologie di impurezze. Sono stati sviluppati metodi rapidi (&lt;5 min) di gascromatografia con detector a ionizzazione di fiamma (GC-FID) (che utilizzano sia elio sia idrogeno come carrier gas) per la determinazione dei livelli di nicotina presenti nelle soluzioni per sigarette elettroniche. Inoltre, \u00e8 stato sviluppato un semplice metodo di gascromatografia-spettrometria di massa (GC-MS) per determinare le impurezze presenti nei liquidi per sigarette elettroniche. Infine, \u00e8 stato sviluppato un dispositivo di campionamento semplice per catturare il vapore delle sigarette elettroniche in un tubo di desorbimento termico (DT), che \u00e8 stato poi estratto termicamente e analizzato tramite lo stesso metodo GC-MS. Questo nuovo approccio \u00e8 stato in grado di fornire livelli rilevabili di composti organici volatili (VOC) e composti organici semivolatili (SVOC), che non sono stati rilevati nei liquidi, da una singola svapata da 40 ml. Tutti e tre i metodi possono essere eseguiti con un GC, due rilevatori e una colonna analitica (Rtx-VMS), riducendo cos\u00ec le risorse richieste e permettendo un facile confronto dei risultati.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Introduzione<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Le sigarette elettroniche non bruciano tabacco, ma piuttosto producono un aerosol (senza fiamma o fumo) da un elemento metallico riscaldante alimentato a batteria e una cartuccia che contiene un liquido [1]. Generalmente, il liquido \u00e8 costituito da umettanti (glicole propilenico [1,2-propandiolo] e\/o glicerina), aromatizzanti e nicotina [2]. Quando l&#8217;alimentazione di una sigaretta elettronica viene attivata, l&#8217;elemento riscaldante vaporizza il liquido per formare una nebbiolina che l&#8217;utilizzatore finale pu\u00f2 poi inalare (spesso indicata come \u201csvapo\u201d) [3]. Questo vapore alla vista \u00e8 simile al fumo del tabacco e replica la sensazione calda del fumo nella gola e nei polmoni (spesso indicata come \u201ccolpo di gola\u201d). Queste somiglianze con il fumo del tabacco, unite al gesto della mano che porta la sigaretta alla bocca, hanno abituato rapidamente gli utenti ad utilizzare le sigarette elettroniche [4-6]. Nonostante il loro crescente utilizzo su scala globale [3], si sa ancora poco sul profilo dei componenti chimici delle sigarette elettroniche. La maggior parte degli studi si \u00e8 concentrata principalmente sulla concentrazione di nicotina e di impurezze (ad esempio, nitrosammine) nel liquido delle sigarette elettroniche (e-juice) [7]. Inoltre si sa poco della composizione chimica del vapore, che \u00e8 in definitiva ci\u00f2 a cui gli utilizzatori finali sono esposti [7, 8].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solo pochi ricercatori (ad esempio, Goniewicz et al. [7], Kosmider [9] e Schober et al. [8]) hanno tentato di caratterizzare il vapore delle sigarette elettroniche analizzando la presenza di composti organici volatili (VOC), nitrosammine, metalli pesanti e idrocarburi aromatici policiclici (PAH); tuttavia, l&#8217;impianto analitico dei loro studi era relativamente complesso e\/o richiedeva l&#8217;uso di una macchina per fumo specifica e\/o di una serie di strumenti analitici specifici. Tali requisiti spesso non sono pratici per le analisi di routine in laboratori a contratto. Il presente studio valuta il contenuto di nicotina e di impurezze di varie sigarette elettroniche disponibili in commercio e delle rispettive soluzioni, attraverso metodi GC-FID e GC-MS semplici e rapidi. Inoltre, le emissioni primarie delle sigarette elettroniche sono state analizzate per rilevare VOC e composti organici semivolatili (SVOC) tramite una tecnica semplice e innovativa che unisce il desorbimento termico (TD) con la GC-MS. Verranno discussi i risultati, le tecniche analitiche, gli ostacoli e le soluzioni possibili.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dati sperimentali<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sigarette elettroniche e liquidi<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Quattro sigarette elettroniche presenti sul mercato (Tabella I) sono state scelte tra quelle presenti nella classifica &#8220;Best E-Cigarettes of 2014&#8221;, la top 10 delle sigarette elettroniche recensite da \u201cesperti e utilizzatori\u201d [10]. \u00c8 importante notare che queste quattro sigarette elettroniche sono apparse frequentemente su altri siti di recensioni online all&#8217;interno di \u201cTop 10\u201d. Inoltre, questi quattro marchi sono facilmente reperibili presso i rivenditori locali. Tutte e quattro le sigarette elettroniche erano sigarette di \u201cprima generazione\u201d (ossia, generalmente riproducevano le dimensioni e l&#8217;aspetto delle normali sigarette) [11] e, ad eccezione del Vendor D, erano monouso. Oltre alle sigarette elettroniche, sono stati acquisiti anche i rispettivi liquidi (ovvero della stessa marca, aroma e concentrazione di nicotina).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I Vendor A, B e C dichiaravano che la percentuale di nicotina era stata calcolata tramite analisi peso\/peso. Il Vendor D segnalava che il valore indicato in etichetta era stato calcolato tramite analisi vol\/vol; tuttavia, su un lato del flacone di ricarica della soluzione D si indicavano 1.000 mg di nicotina, che \u00e8 in linea con un&#8217;analisi peso\/peso (che sembra essere lo standard del settore) o un&#8217;analisi peso\/vol. Pertanto, non era del tutto chiara la modalit\u00e0 con cui il Vendor D aveva determinato la concentrazione di nicotina. Al momento della consegna, \u00e8 stato pipettato 1 ml di ciascuna soluzione per sigarette elettroniche con una siringa calibrata su una bilancia tarata per determinare la densit\u00e0 di ciascuna soluzione. I parametri GC-FID per entrambi i carrier gas utilizzati, elio e idrogeno, sono riportati in Tabella II. I livelli di nicotina delle soluzioni per sigarette elettroniche sono stati determinati calibrando il GC-FID con uno standard di nicotina tracciabile del National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) (cat.#\u00a034085). Lo standard di 1.000 \u00b5g\/ml di nicotina \u00e8 stato diluito in serie con cloruro di metilene per generare una curva di calibrazione esterna a 7 punti (Tabella III). Anche se non esposto, lo standard interno Metodo 8260 della United States (U.S.) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (cat.#\u00a030074) \u00e8 risultato essere adatto per il presente lavoro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tutte le soluzioni per sigaretta elettronica sono state diluite cento volte con cloruro di metilene. Questa diluizione \u00e8 stata effettuata per i seguenti motivi: 1) Lavori iniziali con le soluzioni per sigarette elettroniche indicavano che i liquidi avevano una natura relativamente viscosa. Questa viscosit\u00e0 ha determinato la formazione di bolle d&#8217;aria nella siringa dell\u2019autocampionatore. Una diluizione di 100:1 ha posto rimedio ad eventuali problemi legati alla viscosit\u00e0. 2) Le soluzioni per sigarette elettroniche scelte per questo studio avevano concentrazioni di nicotina di ~15-25 mg\/ml, valori al di fuori dell&#8217;intervallo di concentrazione della curva di calibrazione (Tabella III). I parametri GC-MS sono riportati in Tabella IV. Goniewicz et al. e altri ricercatori hanno utilizzato macchine per fumo (ad esempio, Teague TE-2, Borgwaldt RM20S) per generare e raccogliere l&#8217;aerosol delle sigarette elettroniche; tuttavia, per questo studio questa strumentazione non era disponibile [7]. Pertanto, al fine di fornire risultati riproducibili e quantificabili, \u00e8 stato adattato un semplice dispositivo di campionamento (Figura 1) da una siringa da 50 ml gas-tight (cat.#\u00a024761). La siringa \u00e8 stata utilizzata per aspirare 40 ml di vapore in ~4 secondi dalle sigarette elettroniche attraverso un tubo di desorbimento termico in acciaio inox, impaccato con Tenax TA, Carbograph TD e Carboxen 1003 (non condizionato [cat.#\u00a026469] o condizionato [cat.#\u00a026470]). Questo tubo \u00e8 stato scelto sulla base della combinazione ottimale di tre sorbenti per analizzare i VOC nell&#8217;intervallo C2-3 fino a SVOC nell&#8217;intervallo C30-32. Anche se questo metodo era manuale, \u00e8 stata utilizzata una svapata di ~4 secondi, come suggerito dalle osservazioni di Farsalinos et al. in materia di topografia delle sigarette elettroniche [12]. Oltre alla singola svapata campione, \u00e8 stato analizzato anche un campione di 10 svapate per simulare il regime di un fumatore. Questo campione \u00e8 stato prelevato effettuando manualmente dieci svapate di 4 secondi, separate da intervalli di 10 secondi tra una svapata e l&#8217;altra. Il tubo di desorbimento \u00e8 stato poi trasferito al seguente sistema analitico per la determinazione dei VOC e SVOC emessi direttamente da sigarette elettroniche: sistema di desorbimento termico Markes UNITY accoppiato ad un GC Agilent 7890B dotato di un detector MS Agilent 5977A. I parametri del sistema UNITY e del GC-MS sono riportati rispettivamente in Tabella V e Tabella IV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le concentrazioni nei vapori dei VOC selezionati sono state calcolate tramite una curva di calibrazione a 5 punti, generata analizzando una serie di volumi di uno standard primario di 10,0 ppbv (Tabella VI). Lo standard primario di 10,0 ppbv \u00e8 stato generato iniettando 180 ml di una miscela di 1,00 ppmv di TO-15 da 75 componenti + NJ (cat.#\u00a034396) e 180 ml di una miscela di 1,00 ppmv di precursore dell&#8217;ozono\/PAMS (cat.n.\u00a034420) in un contenitore sottovuoto da 6 litri SilcoCan utilizzato per il monitoraggio dell&#8217;aria (cat.#\u00a027411) e pressurizzato a 30 psig con azoto al 50% di UR. Ochiai et al. [13] hanno dimostrato che una UR del 50% \u00e8 ottimale in termini di stabilit\u00e0. come carrier gas per il desorbimento termico dei tubi e per la trappola criogenica durante il riscaldamento balistico degli analiti, concentrandosi sulla testa della colonna analitica. La combinazione dell&#8217;elio (in assenza di ossigeno) e delle temperature elevate pu\u00f2 avere determinato condizioni ideali per la pirolisi del glicole propilenico e\/o della glicerina. La pirolisi del glicole propilenico e della glicerina ha dimostrato di produrre formaldeide, acetaldeide e acroleina. Pertanto, sono stati condotti i seguenti esperimenti per valutare eventuali contributi composti dello stesso processo TD-GC-MS: nei tubi in acciaio inox vuoti (cio\u00e8, senza sorbenti) e nei tubi di desorbimento termico impaccati (cio\u00e8, con sorbenti multistrato) \u00e8 stato iniettato 1 \u00b5l di soluzioni per sigarette elettroniche; i tubi sono stati poi analizzati tramite TD-GC-MS. Inoltre, l&#8217;aria aspirata attraverso le sigarette elettroniche durante il campionamento veniva dal laboratorio. A causa della natura ubiquitaria di VOC come la formaldeide e il benzene, era fondamentale determinare i contributi di background dei VOC nell&#8217;analisi dei vapori. Pertanto, sono stati raccolti periodicamente campioni da 40 ml dell&#8217;aria del laboratorio tramite tubi di desorbimento termico e analizzati con lo stesso metodo TD-GC-MS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Risultati e discussione<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nicotina<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Le analisi delle soluzioni per sigaretta elettronica, come mostrato in figura 2 (elio), figura 3 (idrogeno, gradiente rapido), e figura 4 (idrogeno, gradiente standard), utilizzando le condizioni GC-FID riportate nella Tabella II, hanno consentito la rapida (&lt; 5 minuti di tempo di esecuzione GC) determinazione dei principali componenti chimici. Tutti e quattro i liquidi per sigarette elettroniche dei Vendor contenevano etanolo, glicole propilenico, glicerina e nicotina. \u00c8 importante notare che tutti e quattro i Vendor riportavano glicole propilenico, glicerina e nicotina; tuttavia, nessuno dei venditori riportava l&#8217;impiego di etanolo come ingrediente. Le analisi in bianco hanno mostrato che l&#8217;etanolo non derivava da una contaminazione di laboratorio. Il cloruro di metilene \u00e8 stato utilizzato come diluente per risolvere i problemi di viscosit\u00e0 e concentrazione; da qui, l&#8217;abbondante presenza di cloruro di metilene. Come mostrato in figura 5, il metodo GC-FID rapido ha prodotto una calibrazione esterna accettabile della nicotina da 0,016 a 1,00 mg\/ml (r &gt; 0,995).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Come mostrato nella Tabella VII, il Vendor dichiarava concentrazioni di nicotina inferiori dal 4% al 28% rispetto alle reali concentrazioni di nicotina rilevate. I riferimenti peso\/peso nelle etichette sono stati convertiti in valori peso\/vol utilizzando la densit\u00e0 misurata di ogni soluzione al fine di consentire un confronto diretto dei valori effettivi determinati analiticamente utilizzando la curva di calibrazione. L&#8217;osservazione di un aumento del contenuto di nicotina era coerente con quello che Schober et al. Per la soluzione illustrata nella figura 6 (Vendor A) erano presenti all&#8217;interno della soluzione per sigarette elettroniche 64 composti non identificati e identificati (alcuni solo provvisoriamente). I composti sono stati classificati come \u201cidentificati\u201d se verificati in un&#8217;analisi successiva con uno standard esterno con tempi di ritenzione e spettro di massa corrispondenti. I composti sono stati classificati come \u201cprovvisoriamente identificati\u201d, quando la qualit\u00e0 dello spettro di massa ha raggiunto almeno l\u201980% secondo il database NIST 2011 [14]. Diverse pirazine sono state identificate provvisoriamente, coerentemente con gli aromi aggiunti dal produttore. Ad esempio, l&#8217;acetilpirazina, identificata provvisoriamente, \u00e8 un aromatizzante ben noto nella produzione di aromi\/profumi di \u201cnoce\u201d. Inoltre, sono state identificate diverse piridine, coerentemente con la nicotina derivata dal tabacco. Ad esempio, la 3-(3,4-diidro-2H-pirrol-5-il)-piridina (miosmina) \u00e8 stata identificata provvisoriamente: si tratta di un composto alcaloide presente nel tabacco [15]. \u00c8 importante notare che quasi la met\u00e0 (36) dei composti non \u00e8 stata identificata; il lavoro dovrebbe ora concentrarsi sull&#8217;identificazione di questi composti.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-custom-chromatogram-article-top\"><div class=\"chromatogram-article-placeholder\"><div class=\"figure-heading\"><strong>Figura 6:<\/strong>\u00a0L\u2019analisi della soluzione per Come osservato nello studio sulle impurezze, \u00e8 chiaro che vi erano numerosi composti (cio\u00e8, 82 non identificati e identificati [alcuni solo provvisoriamente]) nel vapore delle sigarette elettroniche oltre al glicole propilenico, la glicerina e la nicotina. Tuttavia, l&#8217;analisi del vapore ha rivelato la presenza di 18 composti in aggiunta a quelli trovati nell&#8217;analisi del liquido. Di particolare interesse era la presenza di formaldeide, acetaldeide, acroleina e xileni, cos\u00ec come di diversi silossani. Il rilevamento di questi tre carbonili (formaldeide, acetaldeide e acroleina) era coerente con quanto osservato da Goniewicz et al. [7] e Kosmider et al. [9].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Queste osservazioni sono significative per due motivi: 1. Tutti e tre questi carbonili sono altamente tossici; inoltre, la formaldeide \u00e8 un noto agente cancerogeno per gli esseri umani [16] e l&#8217;acetaldeide \u00e8 probabilmente cancerogeno per gli esseri umani [17]. 2. Questi composti non erano presenti nell&#8217;e-juice, il che indica che sono stati generati durante il processo di vaporizzazione e\/o dai materiali delle sigarette elettroniche. Questo \u00e8 coerente con il fatto che la pirolisi della glicerina porta alla formazione di formaldeide, acetaldeide e acroleina [18]. Questo \u00e8 anche coerente con il fatto che i polisilossani sono spesso utilizzati come additivi per materie plastiche e la maggior parte delle sigarette elettroniche di prima generazione, come quelle valutate in questo studio, hanno corpi in plastica. Quanto detto ha effetti profondi sulla valutazione delle sigarette elettroniche, soprattutto se si considera che gli utilizzatori finali sono esposti, alla fine, al vapore delle sigarette elettroniche piuttosto che al liquido.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inoltre, l&#8217;acroleina non \u00e8 stata trovata nelle soluzioni per sigaretta elettronica. Tuttavia, l&#8217;acroleina \u00e8 stata trovata nel vapore di tutte e quattro le sigarette elettroniche analizzate nell&#8217;ambito del presente studio. La concentrazione di acroleina variava da 1,5 a 6,7 ppmv per svapate da 40 ml (0,003-0,015 \u00b5g\/ml), che \u00e8 paragonabile agli 0,004 \u00b5g\/ml riportati da Goniewicz et al. [7]. Per inquadrare queste concentrazioni, esse superavano il limite di esposizione a breve termine (STEL) previsto dal National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), pari a 350 ppbv. Inoltre, presumendo svapate da 40 ml e da 400 a 500 svapate per sigarette elettroniche (valori suggeriti da diversi produttori di sigarette elettroniche), ciascuna sigaretta genererebbe da ~20 a ~230 \u00b5g di acroleina. Dal punto di vista della salute umana, le emissioni di acroleina osservate nel presente studio sembrano essere in linea con quanto precedentemente riportato per le sigarette tradizionali a base di tabacco (da 3 a 220 \u00b5g di acroleina\/sigaretta) [19]. Gli standard di formaldeide e acetaldeide non erano disponibili al momento della pubblicazione della presente nota applicativa. Tuttavia, le aree dei picchi erano dello stesso ordine di grandezza dell&#8217;acroleina, suggerendo in tal modo che la loro concentrazione fosse paragonabile, coerentemente anche con quanto riferito da Goniewicz et al. [7].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attualmente, la Food and Drug Administration (FDA) americana non ha alcuna autorit\u00e0 di regolamentazione sulle sigarette elettroniche. Tuttavia, la FDA riconosce che le sigarette elettroniche, i rischi ad esse associati, i livelli di nicotina e tutte le sostanze chimiche potenzialmente dannose inalate, non sono stati studiati \u201cin maniera completa&#8221;. Pertanto, la FDA ha pubblicato una proposta di regolamento per estendere la propria autorit\u00e0 alle sigarette elettroniche [20]. Indipendentemente dall&#8217;autorit\u00e0 della FDA sulle sigarette elettroniche, emerge chiaramente dalla presente ricerca e da altri studi che quello delle sigarette elettroniche non \u00e8 un mondo pienamente compreso. Tuttavia, sembra che le sigarette elettroniche non siano prive di rischi per la salute degli esseri umani. Sarebbe importante che, come dimostra questo lavoro, in fase di progettazione di studi futuri sulle sigarette elettroniche, i ricercatori prendessero in seria considerazione la differenza tra l&#8217;analisi delle soluzioni per sigaretta elettronica e l&#8217;analisi del vapore prodotto dalle sigarette elettroniche, in quanto \u00e8 stato dimostrato che i loro profili chimici in tubi di acciaio inossidabile vuoti (cio\u00e8 senza sorbenti) e analizzate mediante il metodo TD-GC-MS hanno portato alla formazione di formaldeide, acetaldeide e acroleina. Tuttavia, la concentrazione di questi tre composti non \u00e8 aumentata quando le aliquote di 1 \u00b5l delle soluzioni per sigarette elettroniche sono state iniettate in tubi di desorbimento termico impaccati (cio\u00e8 con sorbenti multistrato) e analizzate mediante il metodo TD-GC-MS. Le due suddette osservazioni sono coerenti con l&#8217;ipotesi che la pirolisi del glicole propilenico e\/o della glicerina stesse avvenendo all&#8217;interno del sistema TD-GC-MS e non del tubo di desorbimento termico (cio\u00e8, nello strato multi-sorbente). Tuttavia, non era chiaro dove si svolgeva la pirolisi (cio\u00e8, sulla trappola criogenica durante il riscaldamento balistico o nelle linee di trasferimento riscaldate) nel sistema TD-GC-MS. A prescindere, la pirolisi \u00e8 stata responsabile del 14-23% delle concentrazioni di formaldeide, acetaldeide e acroleina nel vapore, come osservato nel presente studio. I contributi percentuali riportati sono stati approssimati confrontando i rapporti carbonile\/nicotina ottenuti da tubi in acciaio inossidabile vuoti e da tubi di desorbimento termico impaccati rispetto alle svapate campione da 40 ml. Inoltre, l&#8217;aria del laboratorio a volte \u00e8 stata fonte di alcuni VOC; tuttavia, questi livelli (cio\u00e8, ppbv basse) sono stati spesso ben al di sotto dei livelli delle sigarette elettroniche (cio\u00e8, ppmv da basse a medie). In futuro, i ricercatori dovrebbero tenere in considerazione le concentrazioni nell&#8217;aria del laboratorio e la potenziale pirolisi all&#8217;interno del sistema TD-GC-MS, ed effettuare le regolazioni necessarie nei loro limiti di rilevamento e\/o correzioni di background. Ci\u00f2 era fuori del campo di applicazione del presente studio; tuttavia, in futuro ci si dovrebbe concentrare sulla riduzione del contributo della pirolisi, regolando le temperature nelle linee, la velocit\u00e0 di riscaldamento, la velocit\u00e0 di flusso, ecc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Vantaggi\/Limiti\/Ricerca futura<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ricercatori come Goniewicz et al. hanno avuto accesso a macchine per il fumo specializzate, che hanno permesso di ricreare regimi \u201crealistici\u201d di fumo (ad esempio, una svapata di 1,8 secondi con 10 secondi di intervallo tra le svapate). Questi regimi di fumo possono rivelare pi\u00f9 informazioni sul vapore delle sigarette elettroniche e\/o essere pi\u00f9 precisi rispetto al dispositivo di campionamento semplice (figura 1), utilizzato in questo studio. Tuttavia, il presente lavoro \u00e8 significativo in quanto non sono state necessarie svapate multiple perch\u00e9 le attuali tecniche analitiche hanno dimostrato la rivelabilit\u00e0 da una singola svapata da 40 ml. Infatti, \u00e8 importante notare che un regime di fumo con svapate di 4 secondi inframmezzate da intervalli di 10 secondi per 10 svapate, \u00e8 stato eseguito manualmente con il dispositivo di campionamento semplice (Figura 1). I risultati di questo campione da 10 svapate sono mostrati in figura 8. Il campione da 10 svapate ha rivelato alcuni composti che eluiscono precocemente (cio\u00e8 identificati, identificati provvisoriamente, e non identificati), che non sono stati identificati nella singola svapata (Figura 7). Tuttavia, i picchi di glicole propilenico e glicerina, che erano gi\u00e0 sovraccarichi nella svapata campione singola, sono aumentati talmente tanto nel campione da 10 svapate che la maggior parte dei picchi precedentemente identificati nella svapata singola sono stati persi a causa di interferenze con il glicole propilenico e la glicerina. Inoltre, questo sovraccarico di glicole propilenico e glicerina ha contaminato il sistema di desorbimento termico Markes UNITY, richiedendo cos\u00ec una lunga pulizia per evitare l&#8217;effetto carryover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Come accennato in precedenza nella discussione dei risultati delle prove in bianco, in futuro i ricercatori dovranno tenere in considerazione le potenziali condizioni di pirolisi all&#8217;interno del sistema TD-GC-MS e come queste possano influenzare le concentrazioni di formaldeide, acetaldeide e acroleina nel vapore. Sono disponibili approcci alternativi al campionamento\/analisi (ad esempio, sorbenti solidi rivestiti con DNPH) per questi carbonili, che evitano i problemi di pirolisi; tuttavia, comportano lo svantaggio significativo di lunghe estrazioni dei solventi e l&#8217;impossibilit\u00e0 di eseguire la scansione di un gran numero di composti (ad esempio, gli 82 VOC\/SVOC osservati nel presente studio) in una svapata singola da 40 ml. Il lavoro futuro tramite TD-GC-MS sul vapore delle sigarette elettroniche dovrebbe concentrarsi sull&#8217;ottimizzazione dei parametri di desorbimento termico al fine di ridurre i contributi della pirolisi regolando le temperature delle linee, la velocit\u00e0 di riscaldamento, la velocit\u00e0 di flusso, ecc. Mentre la ricerca fino ad oggi si \u00e8 concentrata principalmente sull&#8217;analisi dei componenti delle soluzioni per sigarette elettroniche, i dati qui presentati indicano la necessit\u00e0 di ulteriori ricerche sostanzialmente sul profilo chimico dei campioni di vapore. A tal fine, questo studio ha incluso lo sviluppo di metodi analitici per entrambi i campioni di soluzione e vapore. Tutti e tre i metodi sviluppati nel corso dello studio prevedevano l&#8217;utilizzo di una colonna Rtx-VMS &#8211; fase proprietaria di Restek &#8211; che \u00e8 stata scelta per ridurre le risorse necessarie e permettere un facile confronto dei risultati.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Per le soluzioni per sigarette elettroniche, sono state impiegate metodologie GC-FID rapide che utilizzano elio o idrogeno come carrier gas, per la determinazione del contenuto di nicotina. Queste metodologie sarebbero adatte per il controllo rapido della qualit\u00e0 delle soluzioni per sigaretta elettronica. Inoltre, \u00e8 stato sviluppato un semplice metodo di GC-MS per determinare le impurezze presenti nelle soluzioni per sigarette elettroniche. I risultati hanno mostrato che le soluzioni per sigaretta elettronica contenevano numerosi composti in aggiunta a quelli riportati sull&#8217;etichetta dal Vendor (glicole propilenico, glicerina e nicotina). In questo studio, i profili delle soluzioni per sigarette elettroniche hanno rivelato la presenza di 64 composti identificati (alcuni solo temporaneamente) e non identificati, in aggiunta ai soli tre riportati in etichetta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Per analizzare i campioni di vapore, \u00e8 stato sviluppato un dispositivo di campionamento semplice ma innovativo per catturare il vapore delle sigarette elettroniche in un tubo di desorbimento termico, che \u00e8 stato poi estratto termicamente e analizzato tramite un metodo GC-MS. Questo approccio ha fornito livelli rilevabili di 82 VOC e SVOC da una singola svapata da 40 ml e pu\u00f2 essere facilmente implementato da laboratori che non hanno accesso ad una macchina per il fumo. In particolare, alcuni dei composti trovati sono noti per essere dannosi per la salute dell&#8217;uomo. Questi composti sono stati rilevati nel vapore, ma non nella soluzione delle sigarette elettroniche; ci\u00f2 indica che sono stati prodotti durante il processo di vaporizzazione.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c8 chiaro quindi che le soluzioni per sigaretta elettronica e, ancora pi\u00f9 importante, i vapori, contengono numerosi composti in aggiunta agli ingredienti riportati sull&#8217;etichetta del prodotto.
