We continue to use the 15m x 0.25mm x 0.25\u00b5m Rxi-35Sil MS for medical cannabis potency testing by GC-FID. Even though we don\u2019t currently offer CBDV and THCV as reference materials, I wanted to find out where they eluted on the 35Sil MS because of their potential for being medically significant. CBDV apparently has demonstrated anti-epileptic and anti-convulsive activity, while THCV may be therapeutic for type 2 diabetes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CBDV and THCV were obtained from BOC Sciences. CBC, CBD, delta-8-THC, delta-9-THC, CBG, and CBN were from Restek. A mixed standard of 100 \u00b5g\/mL of each of the cannabinoids was prepared to generate the chromatogram below. CBDV and THCV retention times were confirmed by analyzing the stock solutions separately. One thing you\u2019ll notice versus my other chromatogram on the Rxi-35Sil MS is that I\u2019ve changed the oven start temperature from 225\u00b0C to 190\u00b0C to improve the peak shape for the more volatile CBDV. Otherwise, the GC conditions are the same. A lower oven start temperature eliminates peak splitting that can occur by poor focusing of earlier eluting components.<\/p>\n\n\n
