This blog focuses on individual columns and specific separations. (hold 3 min.);&nbsp;<strong>Carrier gas:<\/strong>&nbsp;hydrogen; 80cm\/sec. set @ 40\u00b0C;&nbsp;<strong>Detector<\/strong>: FID set @ 220\u00b0C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rt-\u03b2DEXm<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s start with the most basic chiral column, the Rt-\u03b2DEXm, which is permethylated \u03b2-cyclodextrin added into midpolarity cyano\/phenyl polymer (the same as 1701 phase). Based on our table (Table 1), Rt-\u03b2DEXm resolves well&nbsp;<strong>\u03b1-pinene, menthol, 1-phenylethanol, methone and linalool oxides<\/strong>. In addition, this column resolved&nbsp;<strong>menthol<\/strong>&nbsp;better than any other chiral column in our study. Figure 1 shows the separation of menthol (A) and menthone (B) on Rt-\u03b2DEXm, because these two compounds are commonly found together in mint oils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/discover.restek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog-chiral-separation-4-separation-with-rt-dexm-rt-dexsm-and-rt-dexse-01.png\" alt=\"lighting\" title=\"-\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Figure 1: Methol (A) and Menthone (B) resolution on Rt-\u03b2DEXm (30m, 0.32mm ID, 0.25\u00b5m; cat. # 13101)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rt-\u03b2DEXsm<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Rt-\u03b2DEXsm separates 20 of the 21 tested compounds, with 16 being baseline resolved.
